On The Drive Vegas : Hummer Adventure

On The Drive Vegas : Hummer Adventure

Only a few steps from the Las Vegas Monorail Sahara Station, and only a short walk from the las Vegas Strip, one can experience a truly unforgettable off-road adventure in a Hummer. Peter Schiappa and Jim Wilson report on GM’S new ‘autotainment’ attraction, The Drive, Vegas (www.TheDriveVegas.com)

The Drive … 4–10–06

by Peter Schiappa (a.k.a. “Peter Piper”)

Not my usual electronic ignition, Tiptronic transmission, blower-backed, lightning-in-a-box, citation-sucking Mercedes-Benz SLK. No way. But, this was one of those unsought, unexpected, “nuthin’ gonna happin” days that I’m never gonna forget.

Jim called me. (That’s Jim Wilson, executive producer and editor of Vegas Buzz Radio.) “Let’s check out ‘The Drive,’ the GM sponsored driving experience at the Sahara Monorail Station.” ”Why not?” I say, “ Let’s go.”

Within the hour we were parked in the Sahara Hotel garage and entering the eleven-acre General Motors display. Red and black outfitted young hosts and hostesses invited us to view the newest GM products and to sign up for FREE test drives around several specially constructed tracks. What fun! We took plenty of pix until we were granted a ride in our especially selected Yellow Hummer H2.

We chose the ‘difficult terrain’ loop to see first hand what this crate could do. Well, after shifting into low-low and 4-wheel-drive at the touch of a button, our driver Roderick, traversed a narrow canyon by keeping all 4 wheels on the 60 degree inclined surfaces of the lateral walls. I had my window open and for sure, if I wasn’t tied in, I would have fallen out that window. He negotiated the opposite banked wall and I had to hold on to the safety grip with both hands to keep from falling into his lap.

Rod bore into s-curves with the rear wheels spinning out, then slowed quickly as we approached an irregular surface of railroad ties. Soon enough, the trail became a nearly vertical wall. He gunned the engine and we were instantly racing up a 60 degree incline. The road ahead disappeared almost as soon as it had appeared. Braking quickly, we teetered at the top.

It seemed like I was in a swinging cart on a Ferris Wheel anticipating the plunge down to terra-firma and the waiting crowd below. Then back into low-low for a 60 degree descent in full control, with no slipping or sliding.

Several NASCAR s-curves later, we left the track and sedately parked amongst the other vehicles just like any other family sedan. I stepped out onto the pavement as if I had just awakened from a dream.

This Ho-Hum day turned out to be a real HUMMER. – PeterPiper

Peter Piper accompanied Jim Wilson to report on the official public opening of The Drive www.thedrivevegas.com at the Sahara Station of the Las Vegas Monorail, temporarily renamed “GM Station.”

The highlight was a tour in a gleaming new yellow hummer with chrome wheels, which Jim allegedly saw in a dream last year.

The full report is in post-production. We present here the first part, including an enthusiastic introduction by legendary Phillie D.J., Jay Michaels who also attended the event, reporting for the Vegas Buzz Radio Network.

Peter Piper, an immensely successful Day Trader, comments on vapidity and irrelevance of analyst remarks about Apple only several days ago, preceding this article. Stay Tuned for Peter Piper’s Scathing Commentary!

Apple Rolling in Dough
October 11, 2005

Apple announced financial results for its fiscal 2005 fourth quarter ended September 24, 2005, reporting that they are rolling in dough like never before, with the highest revenue and earnings in the company’s history.

Apple shipped 1,236,000 Macintosh units and 6,451,000 iPods during the quarter, representing 48 percent growth in Macs and 220 percent growth in iPods over the year-ago quarter.

Despite the strong financial results, Apple’s stock dropped, because many analysts had expected even stronger sales.

For fiscal 2005, the Company generated revenue of $13.93 billion and a net profit of $1.335 billion, reflecting annual growth of 68 percent and 384 percent, respectively, and representing the highest annual revenue and net profit in the Company’s history.

“We’re thrilled to have concluded the best year in Apple’s history, with 68 percent year-over-year revenue growth and 384 percent net profit growth,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “This is the direct result of our focus on innovation and the immense talent and creativity at Apple. We could not be more excited about the new products we’re working on for 2006.”

“We’re very pleased to report 48 percent year-over-year growth in Mac shipments in Q4, as well as our 10th consecutive quarter of record iPod sales,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the first quarter of fiscal 2006 which will span 14 weeks, we expect revenue of about $4.7 billion. We expect GAAP earnings per diluted share of about $.46, including an estimated $.03 per share expense impact from non-cash share-based compensation, translating to non-GAAP EPS of about $.49.”

Re Columbus Day:

The market was open but settlement dates were stretched out 1 day.

Federal banks were closed as was that dynamic organization, the U.S.Post Office.

Regional banks remained open.

The media covered Christopher Columbus by observing that)

His real name was Cristoforo Colombo. (AMAZING)

He didn’t discover America…one of his crew spotted land before he did.
What we call the American Indian was here before him. ( ASTONISHING)

They were not even Indians.
CC was looking for India, so he called the inhabitants Indians. :(BRILLIANT

Actually, the locals didn’t know their own name and were overjoyed to actually be someone.

Queen of Spain didn’t hock her jewels to subsidize old CC. She wrote a check!

He didn’t prove that the earth was round…Everybody knew, but they were afraid to say it!

So much for ” TRUTH IN ADVERTISING

The world really needs to set the record straight.
’ Good Night and Good Luck ’
